Alison has been working in insurance and the law since 2001 with experience in Public Liability, Professional Indemnity (PI) and Directors’ & Officers' Liability (D&O) matters. Alison has also gained international experience working with Liberty in London where she specialised in PI claims.

Prior to joining Liberty Alison handled Public Liability, PI and D&O claims across various jurisdictions in Australia.

Alison holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws and is admitted to practice as a solicitor in NSW.

Allison is a Senior Claims Specialist based in the Sydney office and manages a variety of personal injury and property damage claims.

Personal profile

Allison joined the insurance industry in 2004.  Prior to joining Liberty, Allison worked for a London market insurer for 4 years handling large and complex Liability claims, Professional Indemnity, Product Recall, Product Guarantee, Financial Loss and sensitive claims.

As a Liability Claims Specialist for a large local insurer, Allison managed a portfolio of claims including third party personal injury, property damage, defamation, office bearers and legal expenses.

Allison is an Associate of ANZIIF and has completed General Insurance and Business studies.

Angela manages Professional Indemnity (PI), Directors’ and Officers’ Liability and Financial Lines claims for a range of professions and industries.  Her particular emphasis is on claims for construction, engineering and architecture clients.

Personal profile

Angela joined Liberty in 2016 with 16 years’ claims experience in the PI and financial lines insurance sector, gained across the Asia Pacific region, specifically, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Japan. 

Prior to joining Liberty, Angela worked as a Senior Professional Indemnity & Financial Lines Claims Officer for various international and domestic insurers.

Angela holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, a Bachelor of Business degree and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She is an admitted solicitor in NSW and holds a current practice certificate.

Angus oversees the Casualty, Workers Compensation and Crisis Management claims teams across the Asia Pacific Region working closely with underwriters, claims professionals and risk engineers to ensure optimum outcomes.

Personal Profile

Angus has over 30 years of commercial experience including 19 years leading claims management, adjusting and investigation businesses. Prior to joining Liberty in 2015 Angus was General Manager of a large Australian loss adjusting business overseeing all professional claims staff across multi lines. Angus is highly regarded for his drive, attention to detail and client focussed approach.

His qualifications include Bachelor of Business, Executive Certificate in Insurance, ANZIIF (Fellow), CIP, FAIM.

Main Role

Based in Sydney, Ben oversees Liberty's Australian Construction and Energy claims portfolio, and also assists with the handling of larger Property claims.

Personal Profile

Before starting with Liberty in 2021, Ben has worked in claims both Internationally and in the Australian insurance markets since 2008. His experience spans from working for leading insurers as a senior Loss Adjuster, as well as in major loss claims at an international brokerage.

Ben holds a Masters in Property Valuation, is a Chartered Loss Adjuster and ANZIIF Senior Associate CIP.

James manages larger Commercial and Corporate Property claims across a wide range of industries, and also claims resulting from Liberty’s Product Recall and Contaminated Products Insurance Policies.

Personal Profile

James has a claims broking and claims examining background. He was initially a claims broker in the London insurance market, working for 2 major international broking houses, liaising with insurers in the Reinsurance, Casualty and First Party space.

He relocated to Sydney in 2001 as a Senior Reinsurance Claims Officer for a major reinsurer.

In 2008, James moved to First Party Property, examining Commercial, Strata and Householders claims with major insurers in the Australian Market, before joining Liberty in 2012.

He has been engaged in managing Energy Property Construction claims for 4 years, and Crisis Management Claims for over 2 years, within Liberty.

James has a Bachelor of Arts (honours) degree in Business Studies from the University of Greenwich, London, and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations, from the University of New South Wales.

Based in Sydney, James has technical and portfolio oversight of all SPC claims throughout Australia and construction PI claims throughout the Asia Pacific region.  He also handles a portfolio of claims.

James has over 30 years’ experience in financial lines claims across a variety of professions but with particular focus on complex and high value construction claim.

James holds a degree in Masters of Business Administration and is CIP, Fellow of ANZIIF.  His professional experience includes work on Professional & Financial Risks claims at a number of other insurers in Australia as well as four years working as a claims broker in the London market.

Jessica manages a portfolio of Casualty claims, and provides support for Liberty's Casualty Fast Track claims initiative.

Personal profile

Jessica joined Liberty in 2015, having previously worked as a claims adjuster for a personal Accident & Health insurer and later as a claims consultant with a top-tier brokerage firm, where she specialised in Industrial Special Risks, Public and Product Liability, Contract Works, engineering, Marine, ‘expat’/’inpat’ and travel claims. 

Jessica holds ANZIIF Tier 1 Insurance Broking qualifications (Providing Customer Advice and Insurance Law & Regulation) and is an affiliate member of ANZIIF.

As Liberty’s Claims Outsourcing Specialist, John collaborates with cross line departments and claims partners for the ongoing management and oversight of claims outsourcing arrangements.

Personal profile

John joined Liberty in November 2020 with over 9 years of experience in the insurance industry handling claims in both general and life insurance. He has worked across retail and wholesale life insurance as well as third party claims administration for accident and health, domestic property and strata, motor vehicle and income protection.

Jon manages and is responsible for all Recovery claims for each line of business for the Asia Pacific region.

Personal Profile

Jon is a qualified lawyer who has practiced in New South Wales and Victoria and has over 20 years of insurance experience.  He has advised on and handled many large and complex claims across numerous lines of business including Financial lines, Property, Casualty, Accident & Health, Crisis and Marine.

He joined Liberty in 2017 to establish a dedicated Recoveries Unit.

Prior to joining Liberty he worked for a number of international and Australian insurers and underwriters as a Claims Recovery specialist, General Counsel and Claims Manager.  He has drafted policy wordings, advised on compliance issues and managed claims in all jurisdictions of Australia, New Zealand, Asia and various other parts of the world.

Prior to joining Liberty in 2013, Kate spent 6 years working in the London insurance market where she predominantly dealt with large and complex financial institution claims.  She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Law degree.

Nathan leads the First Party Claims team for Asia Pacific, encompassing Liberty's Marine, Energy, Property, Construction and Terrorism products.  He is responsible for the delivery of a responsive, technically sound and commercially pragmatic Claims service across these product lines.

Nathan joined Liberty in 2008.  He has managed Liberty's Asia Pacific Workers Compensation claims portfolio, the Australian Claims team across all products and the Asia Pacific First Party Claims team.

Nathan also served as Chief Legal Counsel for Asia Pacific from 2016 before returning to First Party Claims in late 2018.

Prior to joining Liberty, Nathan worked in both private practice and in-house Legal roles.  He has extensive experience in litigation, product development, wording review and in the management of highly complex claims across all of Liberty's product lines.

Philippe is a Senior Claims Specialist for Retail and has a specific focus on collaboratively overseeing a segment of Liberty's outsourced property claims with our partners, ensuring a consistent and fair approach to the management and decision-making of their claims.

Philippe joined Liberty in August 2022, with more than 35 years of claims handling and insurance management experience across a variety of insurers, underwriting agencies, brokers and loss adjusters.

Philippe holds diplomas in General Insurance and Loss Adjusting.

Prior to joining Liberty in 2021, Rebecca was employed as a solicitor in the insurance practice of a national Australian law firm.  Rebecca’s background involved practicing in dispute resolution and civil litigation, acting for insurers and advising in relation to professional negligence claims against a variety of professionals.   

Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.  She has been admitted as a solicitor in NSW since 2014 and holds a current practice certificate.

Richard is the Complex Claims Manager for Casualty Australia and is based in Sydney.

Personal Profile

Richard started his insurance career in 1997 in Lloyds of London working in the claims team of a leading Casualty Syndicate gaining experience in claims arising from international jurisdictions.

Richard moved to Australia in 2005 and he has since been involved in the defense and management of major casualty losses across Australia and New Zealand.  Richard has a proven track record in managing casualty claims, obtaining the best economic result for policy holders through commercial negotiations and targeted litigation strategies.  Richard has expertise in catastrophic injuries, product liability, infrastructure damage, natural perils liability as well as product recalls arising out of defective goods.  Richard has presented a number of industry papers on workplace injuries, contractual obligations and proportionate liability.

As the Head of Claims, Rob leads a team of over 40 people across Asia Pacific.

Personal Profile

Rob has been involved in the insurance industry for over 20 years in Australia and the UK. He has also acted as an solicitor for both insurers and insureds in Australia.  Having joined Liberty in 2015, Rob was appointed Senior Vice President – Head of Claims Asia Pacific in August 2021.

Robyn is Accident & Health Claim Manager for Australia and oversees our outsourced claims service provider and emergency assistance throughout the claims process to ensure a seamless experience for our policyholders and brokers, while working closely alongside our underwriters.

Robyn joined Liberty in February 2019 and brought with her over 30 years of experience in the travel and accident and health claims industry, including working with third-party claim administrators in senior roles. 

Robyn is passionate about claims and the A&H portfolios she manages, and she understands the process inside and out.

Samantha is a Senior Claims Specialist based in the Sydney office.  She manages Casualty claims across Australia for a broad range of insureds, including in the construction, government, rail, religious organization and sports sectors.

Personal Profile

Prior to joining Liberty in May 2019, Samantha was an insurance litigation lawyer with over 17 years of experience, with a particular expertise in complex multi-party liability disputes.  She has worked with global and domestic insurers and companies in the construction, property and hospitality industries.

Samantha holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.  She has held a NSW practising certificate since 2007.

Stephen joined Liberty in 2018. Prior to joining Liberty, he worked as a claims manager for a large general insurer in the Professional & Financial Risks team. Stephen also previously worked as foreign qualified lawyer in the insurance practice of a national Australian law firm and as an insurance solicitor in the London offices of a US law firm. 

Stephen holds an LLB in Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. He is an admitted solicitor in England & Wales.

Sui joined in February 2022. Based in Sydney, she manages the casualty claims team across Australia working collaboratively with underwriting, claims, risk engineers and external stakeholders to deliver tailored solutions for Liberty’s clients.

With 20 years of casualty claims experience working for global insurers in the corporate and specialty space, Sui understands the market dynamics in which insurers and clients operate. Her technical proficiency, customer focus, and pragmatic approach in managing complex and large losses in the construction, government and retail segments are highly regarded.

Sui holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business degree and is admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW.

After joining Liberty as a contractor in 2012 to work on the Casualty portfolio, Edith moved to a permanent underwriting administration role. Promoted to Underwriter in 2021, Edith now exclusively focuses on SME business.

Natalie joined Liberty Brisbane in 2007 as a member of the administrative staff, soon transferring to the Casualty team as an underwriting assistant. Since then she has worked her way up to an underwriting position, gaining experience in underwriting and portfolio management of both facility and programme business.

Prior to joining Liberty, Natalie spent 6 years in retail customer service. She holds a Bachelor of Business with a major in Human Resources and is a member of ANZIIF.

Graham commenced working life as a health professional and across ten years worked in public and private health settings.

Graham joined Liberty in 2022 with over 17 years' experience in insurance.  He started his career working as a private and public health professional, then moved into insurance focusing on Workers Compensation claim management.  He subsequently moved on to general insurance broking and a client service role, and he has worked with government clients for more than 17 years.

Graham has a masters of Management (Personal Injury) and a Diploma of Insurance Broking.

Michael began his career in insurance while still at university, working part-time in administration for a general insurance company.  After graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, he worked for five years, first in motor and householders’ insurance and then in contingency insurance, before moving into crisis management insurance with a leading global insurance company.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Marketing from Cornell University and is an Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance from the American Institute For Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.

Geoffrey is a senior associate M&A underwriter based in Sydney at Liberty GTS specializing in underwriting transaction risks relating to mergers and acquisitions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Geoffrey has worked full-time at Liberty GTS (where he previously worked for Liberty’s subsidiary Ironshore) since March 2014, following a four-month secondment in mid-2013.

Geoffrey’s prior experience includes more than five year’s legal experience at international law firm DLA Piper. He has been involved in a broad range of corporate and commercial advisory work with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions. Geoffrey also worked in London with DLA Piper UK LLP in 2012. Geoffrey holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Sydney University and is currently completing a Masters of Law at Sydney University. Mehdi holds an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering.  He has worked in various risk management roles since 2009 and has been trained as a fire protection engineer and chemical risk surveyor in the United States and Germany respectively.  He has worked internationally and provided consultation in the specific areas of fire, machinery breakdown and natural hazard perils to a variety of different sectors, with special focus on the petrochemicals industry.

Mehdi is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and a Chartered Professional Engineer (Australia), including registration under Queensland legislation (RPEQ).  Mehdi is also an associate member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers in the specialist field of Process Safety.

Based in Sydney, Mehdi works across the Asia Pacific region conducting site surveys and assessing risk in oil and gas production; refining; power generation; mining and construction projects.  His key priorities are in providing regional direction with technical support to Liberty's underwriters as well as providing risk control consultation to brokers and clients.

Mehdi holds an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering.  He has worked in various risk management roles since 2009 and has been trained as a fire protection engineer and chemical risk surveyor in the United States and Germany respectively.  He has worked internationally and provided consultation in the specific areas of fire, machinery breakdown and natural hazard perils to a variety of different sectors, with special focus on the petrochemicals industry.

Mehdi is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and a Chartered Professional Engineer (Australia), including registration under Queensland legislation (RPEQ).  Mehdi is also an associate member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers in the specialist field of Process Safety.

Adrian joined Liberty in 2017 with a breadth of experience in financial services, spanning startups to large organisations both listed and unlisted.

Ben is one of the founding team members of Liberty’s corporate insurance operations in the Asia Pacific region, and has been part of the team for more than 21 years. 

For much of this time Ben was based in Singapore, where he spent 13 years leading Liberty’s corporate insurance operations in Asia. During this time he grew Liberty’s Asia operations into a US$100m revenued business with sustained profits and offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and China, plus a specialist team servicing South Korea. 

Ben returned to Sydney in 2018 and today has oversight for many of Liberty’s Australian branch operations, Marketing plus a suite of specialty product lines including Marine, Crisis Management, Accident & Health and Surety. 

Ben has over 25 years' experience in the insurance industry. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Technology.

Brett is responsible for the underwriting and management of the Energy, Property, Construction and Terrorism products across Asia Pacific.

Personal Profile

Brett started his insurance career in 1997 with an international reinsurer, before moving into a role as a direct insurance broker where he worked on some of Australia's largest energy and mining companies at that time.

He joined Liberty in 2002 and since then has worked in our Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore offices. His principal experience resides in the oil and gas industry as well as the power generation segment, where he has had major involvement in writing policies for a large number of the regions refining, petrochemical and LNG producers, as well as writing many of Asia Pacific's major power producers over many years.

Brett has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of New England.

Frankie joined Liberty in 2017.  She's worked for an airline, a motoring services organisation, a health services administrator and another insurer, and will happily testify that insurance is a great industry to work in.

Gabija has more than 20 years of legal experience, including over a decade in private practice at leading law firms in Australia.  She started her in-house insurance career in 2008 and held a number of senior roles within BT Financial Group, including Head of Legal – Insurance before taking on a General Counsel & Company Secretary role at a leading international insurer.  Gabija joined Liberty in 2018 and is responsible for delivering a wide range of legal services to Liberty’s operations in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Gabija has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Greg leads Liberty's Surety team in the Asia Pacific region and has over a decade of experience working in, and leading, Surety practices across Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, Greg started his career in banking, gaining experience across accounting, financial markets, franchising, and institutional and corporate banking, for both Australian and International banks.

John McCabe is responsible for the strategic direction of Liberty’s Asia Pacific offices, overseeing risk management, capital efficiency, structure, new business and mergers and acquisitions. 

Personal Profile

John’s experience includes over 26 years in insurance and 13 years in public practice accounting. Prior to his current role, John was global Chief Risk Officer in Liberty Mutual’s Boston head office.

John is a Certified Insurance Professional and a Fellow of ANZIIF.  He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Economics.

Michael Abdallah is the President & Managing Director of Liberty Asia Pacific, and has global product line oversight for Liberty’s Energy, Marine and Construction business.

Mike joined Liberty in New York in 1999 and led the successful re-underwriting of the acquired Albany Insurance Company, which helped kick-start Liberty’s US operations.

Prior to Liberty, Mike was President of Navigators in New York, and before that spent 25 years with CIGNA in various international locations.

During the last 25 years, Mike has worked in Tokyo, Philadelphia, London, New York and Sydney, and directed both regional and global operations.

Michael began his career in insurance while still at university, working part-time in administration for a general insurance company.  After graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, he worked for five years, first in motor and householders’ insurance and then in contingency insurance, before moving into crisis management insurance with a leading global insurance company.

Paul has more than 25 years’ experience in both claims and underwriting, during which time he has dealt with both international and domestic brokers. Since beginning his career in the marine insurance industry in 1997, Rob has gained experience across both claims and underwriting.  His experience extends to numerous types of infrastructure projects requiring marine cargo and DSU coverage.

Rob has been involved in the insurance industry for over 20 years in Australia and the UK. He has also acted as an solicitor for both insurers and insureds in Australia.  Having joined Liberty in 2015, Rob was appointed Senior Vice President – Head of Claims Asia Pacific in August 2021.

Steve focuses on Civil Project risk assessment and surveys in support of underwriters across Asia and Australia. He is also involved in supporting the global Civil product line team in London.

Personal Profile

Steve joined Liberty in July 2008 with a mandate to formulate and execute a strategy for the global roll-out of Civil Construction as a new product line within Liberty.  Prior to this, Steve spent just under 20 years at Swiss Reinsurance, finishing there as Head of Engineering, Asia. During that tenure, he was primarily involved in the insurance of major construction projects worldwide working in South African, London, Zurich and Australian markets.  Before his time in reinsurance, Steve spent 10 years in a variety of site-related construction activities including bridge, mining and structural erection projects.

Steve comes from a Civil Engineering background and has a Bachelor of Commerce. He is an Associate of the Insurance Institute and a Fellow of the Risk Management Institute of South Africa.

Vanessa joined Liberty Asia Pacific in 2001.  Prior to her recent appointment she led the Asia Pacific Claims Team from 2004 through to 2021.

While leading the Claims Team she's held a number of roles within the organisation including Legal Counsel, Senior Vice President of Operations, Technology, Strategy and Change Management and was appointed to lead Liberty’s digital transformation in in July 2020. Having managed a broad range of business functions, Vanessa is an integral member of Liberty’s senior leadership team.

Vanessa has worked for a number of Australian insurers and handled claims in jurisdictions throughout Australia, Asia and the USA. She's passionate about risk, all things digital and looking for ways that these can add value to customers and Liberty’s business.

William is the Head of APAC for Liberty GTS.  William joined Liberty (where he originally worked for Liberty’s subsidiary Ironshore as the Managing Director of Australia) from Allen & Overy in early 2013 to establish the Australian office and the Mergers & Acquisitions and Tax offering.

Prior to joining Liberty GTS, William was a private equity lawyer specialising for more than 10 years in tax structuring.  William has worked at Weil Gotshal and Manges, Allen & Overy and at PricewaterhouseCoopers.  William has a deep understanding of private equity transactions, tax structuring and insurance having advised numerous private equity houses while based in London, Australia and New Zealand.

William has a B’Com & LLB from the University of Canterbury and a Master of Laws (Tax & Commercial) from the University of Sydney.
